On 8th December, 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga H.E. Wang Baodong, on behalf of the Government of the People's Republic of China, signed the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement with the Minister of Finance and National Planning Hon.the Dr. Pohiva Tui'onetoa, on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga, for the purpose of implementing the China-aided Tonga High School Sports Complex and any other aid projects. Chief of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy and acting CEO of Tonga's Ministry of Finance and National Planning attended the signing ceremony.
Hon. the Dr. Pohiva Tui'onetoa expressed his appreciation for China's support for Tonga's economic and social development, believing that the bilateral agreement and the sports project will help improve Tonga's sports facilities, boost its sports development and encourage more active and healthier lifestyles for the Tongan people.
H.E. Wang Baodong commented that the coming year of 2018 will usher in the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between our two countries, and China will work closely with Tonga to expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation and break new ground in the China-Tonga strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
