Chinese Embassy in Tonga Holds Farewell and Welcome Reception for the Replacement of Counsellors

On August 2, 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga held a reception to bid farewell to Counsellor Chen Tie and to welcome Counsellor Yang Zhaohui. Honorable Semisi Sika, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism, Honorable Lord Tu’i’afitu, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Minister of Police, Agriculture, Trade and Commerce, Members of Parliament, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other Ministries, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Chinese companies and Chinese community attended the reception.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wang spoke highly of the important progress in the China-Tonga relations over the past 20 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, fully recognized Counsellor Chen Tie’s hard work in promoting the bilateral cooperation in various fields and the internal and external work of the China Embassy. He extended gratitude to various ministries of the Tongan Government for their great support to the Embassy and Counsellor Chen Tie in performing their duties. Ambassador Wang welcomed Counsellor Yang Zhaohui to the new post and hoped that he and staff in the Embassy keep close interaction with Ministries of the Tongan government and make contribution to promoting the Strategic Partnership between China and Tonga

On behalf of the Tongan government, Honorable Mateni Tapueluelu, Minister of Police, Fire Services, Revenue and Customs expressed appreciation to Consellor Chen Tie for his contribution to the development of the Tonga-China relations and welcome Counsellor Yang Zhaohui to Tonga. He said that during the 20 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties, Tonga benefited greatly from the cooperation with China and was very grateful for China’s assistance. He pledged that the Tongan side is ready to strengthen exchanges at various levels, enhance political mutual trust and continue to support each other on issues related to the sovereignty and core interests so as to to promote the continuous development of the relations between Tonga and China.

Counsellor Chen Tie recalled his work in Tonga during the past two years and thanked the Embassy staff and the relevant departments of the Tongan government for their assistance and cooperation. He wished that the two countries enjoy closer relations and the two peoples more solid friendship. Counsellor Yang Zhaohui said that he will devote himself to the work, strengthen cooperation with colleagues in the Embassy and friends from the Tongan side, and spare no efforts to promote the development of the bilateral relations.
