Dongguan Delegation Visits the Kingdom of Tonga

On 24 to 26 July, 2018, a delegation led by Mr. Liang Weidong, Secretary of CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Dongguan Municipal People's Congress, Guangdong Province of China visited the Kingdom of Tonga. His Excellency Wang Baodong, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga confered with Mr. Liang Weidong on jointly promoting the friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between Dongguan City and Tonga.

Prime Minister Hon. Pohiva met with Mr. Liang Weidong and the delegation at Tonga government building on 25 July. The two sides held friendly talks on strengthening China-Tonga relations and exchanges and cooperations between Tonga and Guangdong province and Dongguan city.

On the same day, the “Sidewalk Ground-breaking Ceremony and Tourism Road Completion Ceremony” was held in the capital of Tonga, and HRH Prince Ata attended the ceremony. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Tourism Hon. Sika, Mr. Liang Weidong and Ambassador Wang Baodong respectively delivered speeches at the ceremony. Both sides spoke highly of the fruitful achievements of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties 20 years ago, and vowed to keep working together to actively implement the major consensus reached by the state leaders of the two countries and further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas including the exchanges between local governments, and push for greater development of China-Tonga strategic partnership.

Mr. Liang Weidong also met with Ha'apai Governor Hon. Puloka. The two sides exchanged views on developing a sister-city relationship and strengthening friendly bilateral exchanges and development cooperation between Dongguan City and Ha'apai.
