On 8 to 11 September, 2018,the Friendship Delegation of Guangdong Province of China visited the Kingdom of Tonga. H.E. Wang Baodong, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga confered with the delegation leader, Mr. Wang Xuecheng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress on jointly promoting the friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between Guangdong and Tonga.

During its stay in Tonga, the delegation held meetings respectively with Hon.Lord Fakafanua, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, H.E.Mahe Tupouniua, Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.R.H. Princess Pilolevu, President of Tonga-China Friendship Association and Hon.Saia Piukala, Minister of Health. Both sides agreed to work together to strengthen friendly exchanges between the two peoples, promote cooperation in the fields of legislation, agriculture, fisheries, tourism, medical care, development aid, etc., so as to further contribute to the development of China-Tonga relationship.
