Charge d'Affaires Yang Zhaohui attends the launching ceremony of Mushroom Cultivation Training Program

On 14th May, at the invitation of Chinese Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project team, Charge d'Affaires Yang Zhaohui attended the launching ceremony of Mushroom Cultivation Training Program held in Tupou College. Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forest Losaline Ma’asi, officers from the Ministry and trainees from local communities were present.

On behalf of the Tongan Government, Hon. Ma’asi appreciated the Chinese Government for the support to Tongan agricultural development and the Chinese expert team for their commitment to the project. She spoke highly of the mushroom cultivating technique introduced by the Chinese agricultural project. She pointed out that it could not only generate income for small farmers but also improve dietary components and physical health for the Tongan public. She encouraged the trainees to master and apply this technique so as to improve their livelihood.

Charge d'Affaires Yang in his speech stated that benefitting from the smooth development of China-Tonga relationship in the past 20 years, a series of cooperation projects including those in agricultural area have been successfully implemented in Tonga and achieved positive outcomes. Tongan Government is now conducting Juncao planting experiment and requesting Chinese Government for assistance. The Chinese Government is willing to give positive consideration to the assistance to the Tongan side on promoting Juncao planting in Tonga to facilitate the development of mushroom cultivation and livestock raising in the Kingdom.
